Welcome to Students
A very warm welcome to new and returning students. We are extremely pleased that you will be joining us at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES), named after the renowned Caribbean economist who was devoted to the development of the Caribbean. You were specially chosen to become part of our SALISES family.

The UWI Strategic Plan states that:-

A distinctive UWI graduate should demonstrate that he/she is: i) a critical and creative thinker ii) an effective communicator with good interpersonal skills iii) IT-skilled and information literate iv) innovative and entrepreneurial v) globally aware and well-grounded in his/her regional identity vi) socially, culturally and environmentally responsible vii) guided by strong ethical values.

We at SALISES are committed to ensuring that you all become distinctive UWI graduates. We welcome your intellectual and creative capital and value your contribution to the advancement of our work at SALISES and UWI in general.

You will be exposed to the work of our finest researchers and we want you to immerse yourself in the work of the institute by getting involved in existing research clusters. We encourage you to present at our conferences and also begin to publish in our academic journals.

We are committed to providing an enabling environment which is supportive and intellectually stimulating. Our facilities have been recently upgraded to make your stay with us more comfortable. We ask that in return you take responsibility for your academic advancement by committing yourself to work diligently and consistently. We welcome your commendations and constructive criticism to ensure that you succeed to the best of your ability. Feel free to voice your opinion in a respectful and constructive way to us.

When you graduate from your respective programs, please join our SALISES Alumni to continue to provide support and encouragement to new students.
